Let’s Celebrate Prom at Home with ABC

I know so many high school seniors who are missing out on their traditional style proms this year (and graduation – sigh). While it’s heartbreaking, it’s still possible to have some fun and celebrate prom at home. From special prom Zoom backgrounds to prom themed television finales (on ABC Wednesday, May 13th) and snacks galore, let’s make it happen.

Whether planning a prom at home to replace the school sponsored one during this chaotic time in our country, hosting a prom night because you never attended yours, or just want to enjoy some family fun, this is for you. Get the whole family involved! Parents pull out your old photos (or even your old outfit) – I did!

DON’T MISS: Scroll down because my 12-year old tried on my old prom dress!

How to celebrate prom at home

Invite Guests (Zoom Backgrounds Where Needed)

Of course for most of us inviting guests will be done virtually due to social distancing.

Ask a date or gather a group of your besties.

Check out these fun Zoom backgrounds where needed. If posting on social media be sure to use #ABCPromNight.https://platform.twitter.com/embed/index.html?dnt=false&embedId=twitter-widget-0&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1260276014778810369&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Farticlespinterest.com%2Flets-celebrate-prom-at-home-with-abc%2F&theme=light&widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&width=550px

FUN FACT: I visited with the cast and was on the set of American Housewife a couple years back – so fun!

Dress Up

Put on your prom outfits or just grab your favorite party dress/suit. Don’t forget the prom King and Queen sashes!

Gather Prom Party Supplies

An instant camera is a must (so many exciting colors) and so fun for a prom at home. This will be a hit with younger siblings too. Grab some photo booth props and a gorgeous backdrop to set the stage. Balloons are a fun addition too.

Snacks and Punch

From popcorn to appetizers, or even a DIY Waffle Bar (think fun waffle ice cream sandwiches and more), snacks are a must.

Prom punch is practically tradition, right? Parents might even want to “spike the punch” for adults. Here’s an easy punch recipe:

Quick Prom Punch:

  • Fruit Punch mix
  • Water/Club Soda
  • Pineapple Juice
  • Rum (or spirit of choice) for adults 21+

Directions – Mix together, shake with ice, and boogie the night away!

Some of our favorite ABC shows have provided some great snack and punch recipes:https://platform.twitter.com/embed/index.html?dnt=false&embedId=twitter-widget-1&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1259604148925972480&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Farticlespinterest.com%2Flets-celebrate-prom-at-home-with-abc%2F&theme=light&widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&width=550px

ABC’s Prom Themed Shows

Get ready as Wednesday will have an entire night of prom-filled fun with some of our favorite ABC shows and characters. Here’s the lineup:

“The Goldbergs” – “Pretty in Pink” – Adam and Brea decide to go to prom together, but when Adam worries he won’t be Prom King, Beverly’s actions jeopardize the event. Meanwhile, Barry teaches Erica how to be compassionate and caring when Geoff’s dad is in the hospital. (8:00–8:30 p.m. ET)

“Schooled” – “Clueless” – Lainey has a difficult choice regarding her relationship with Barry and her friendship with CB. Meanwhile, Coach Mellor is put in a tough parenting position when Toby is invited to prom as a freshman by a senior. (8:30–9:00 p.m. ET)

“American Housewife” – “Prom” – Katie confronts a classmate’s mom when she suspects Anna-Kat is being bullied at school. Meanwhile, Taylor sets out to complete the final item on her life skills checklist – teaching Greg to shoot a three-pointer – so that she can attend her senior prom. At the same time, Oliver is sympathetic when a caller at the Teen Help Line confides that no one asked her to prom. (9:00-9:30 p.m. ET)

With all this prom talk around my house, I decided to go deep in my closet. I pulled out a little blast from the past – my old prom dress, and had my tween try it on.
